Mario Diz is a musician who has developed his professional career linked to various projects. He is the director of the OCUSC (Orquestra e Coro da Universidade de Santiago de Compostela), which he has directed since 2010 as a disciple of maestro Antón García Abril. In recent years, he has been actively composing for various professional and educational groups, including premieres of various categories, such as Tres Piezas para Banda (Three Pieces for Band) by the Banda Municipal de Música de Santiago de Compostela, commissioned by the CNDM for the Jornadas de Música Contemporánea (Contemporary Music Festival) in this city; Catrina e Dona Francisca (Catrina and Dona Francisca), a tale set to music based on a text by the writer Paula Carballeira, commissioned by the Salón del Libro de la Ciudad de Pontevedra (Book Fair of the City of Pontevedra) for the Symphony Orchestra of this city and narrated by the author herself, among other works.
He composed various pieces for different chamber groups, including a special mention for the premiere and recording by the prestigious Bretón Quartet with a composition based on texts by the German poet Hilde Domin, as well as the premiere and recording by the award-winning mezzo-soprano Nuria Lorenzo with the lullaby suite Todos los Niños Sueñan for the Mezzo, Viola and Harp ensemble.
Mario Diz holds a PhD in Education from the University of Vigo and is a professor of musical expression teaching at the University of Santiago de Compostela. From 2008 to 2016 he was a member of the management team of the Municipal School of Music of Santiago de Compostela where he also taught violin and viola. His passion for teaching these instruments is reflected in his publication of the methodology My First Violin for early initiation, which includes more than 20 pieces composed expressly for this purpose; also in numerous comparative studies on the different methodologies for teaching string instruments.
